District 2 Supervisor Candidate

Howard Haas

Howard Haas is running for District 2 Kossuth County Supervisor.  Howard and his wife, Sue, are both Kossuth County natives and they have been married for almost 37 years.  Together they raised three children in Algona.

Howard has been a farmer for the last 40 years, but his experience lies not only in his farming business. He also served on cooperative elevator boards for a total of 27 years and was elected as board chairman from 2006-2021. The board members monitored revenue and expenses monthly, updated financial forecasts, and made adjustments to elevator operations when necessary.  The 2021 operating budget for the cooperative was $43 million with total sales of $340 million.  In his time on elevator boards, Howard gained practical experience with complex budgets, varied stakeholder interests, and strategic planning.

Howard would like to see the county make deliberate choices that manage the budget effectively to serve the current residents into the future and attract others to the area.  He has the ability to see nuance in complicated issues and will work to achieve a compromise that best serves the county. He believes that if everyone makes an effort to work together, the challenges facing the county right now can be met and overcome.

Howard would be grateful for your support in the upcoming election.

I am running for the office of Kossuth County 5th District Supervisor because I have lived in Kossuth County my entire life. I have raised my family here and I spent 26.5 years of my life as an employee of Kossuth County in the Auditor’s Office -12 of those years as the County Auditor. My job as the County Auditor gave me great insight and knowledge into the County Budget and as we know, this has been an issue that needs to be addressed. I also know that answers need to be given as to why we are in a position to even consider raising taxes to the extent it was considered for this upcoming fiscal year.

I care about the citizens of this County and about the future and financial health of this County. I know how healthy the County’s finances have been in the past and it is time we get back on track. My knowledge and experience will be an asset to not only the citizens of Kossuth County but to all Board Members.
